Buckhurst Plant Hire Celebrating Women in Construction This International Women’s Day
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re shining the spotlight on the talented women in our industry and at Buckhurst Plant Hire. One of them being Paige, our Apprentice Plant Fitter based at our Leeds depot. Paige is part of the growing number of women pursuing careers in construction, helping to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes.
We caught up with Paige for a quick Q&A about her role, what she enjoys most, and her advice for other women considering a similar career path.
Paige: My dad was always tinkering with engines, and I used to help out at weekends working on vehicle repairs. I really enjoyed it.
Paige: There’s always lots to do! My day involves checking what machinery is needed for hire, carrying out pre-hire inspections, and identifying what parts are required for repairs.
Paige: I’ve gained a strong understanding of health and safety in the workplace and how different plant machinery operates. I’m also learning problem-solving skills through my Construction Plant Maintenance course at Askham Bryan College.
Paige: I just enjoy working on machines, especially the larger plant items.
Paige: Why not? Go for it! Do what you enjoy, whatever that is.
Paige: I don’t really think too much about being a woman in this environment – we all just get on with what needs to be done.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we encourage more women to explore careers in plant hire, construction, and engineering. If you’re interested in an apprenticeship or career at Buckhurst Plant Hire, keep an eye on our website for opportunities.
