A cleanup operation is underway in South Manchester after a burst water main caused significant flooding in the Didsbury area over the weekend.
On the evening of Saturday, 5th April, a water main ruptured on Borrowdale Crescent, leading to severe flooding that forced the evacuation of over 30 homes. United Utilities engineers were initially on site repairing a small leak when the situation escalated, causing a major breach and rapid flooding throughout the area.
Buckhurst Pgelant Hire was called out to the emergency at approximately 2 am on Sunday to support the clean-up operation. Our team responded swiftly, supplying the required plant equipment to assist in scraping thick mud and debris from the road and helping emergency teams regain control of the affected area.
Thanks to the rapid work of all involved, the water supply has since been restored. However, United Utilities has stated that some residents "may notice fluctuations in their pressure during peak times of the day" as systems stabilise.
We’re proud to play a supporting role in urgent responses like this, working in close coordination with utility providers, engineers, and local authorities to help restore safety and accessibility as quickly as possible.
